In the Bible there is a story about three Hebrews named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who took a stand for God. As a result, they were thrown into a fiery furnace. Some people today think following the Lord guarantees a carefree life of ease, but the Bible doesn’t teach that. Scripture teaches that you are going to suffer, Christian or not. You are going to die, Christian or not. But suffering and dying in service of God and others leads to victory. Dying without Jesus leads to separation and defeat.
God brought the three Hebrew young men through the fiery furnace. It’s a wonderful story in the book of Daniel, chapter three, and our verse for today gives you an indication of what an adventure it is to serve the Lord. Life is not always easy. We sometimes suffer as a direct result of the stand we take for Jesus. But God is able to save, deliver, and keep us. But even if He does not do exactly as we want or expect we will still take our stand for the Lord and serve Him faithfully.
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.” (Daniel 3:17)
