BALANCE your PORTFOLIO or GIVE a GIFT of GOLD
Today’s financial hint is about balancing your portfolio. I don’t believe in “playing the stock market,” but I am a big believer in owning equity in good companies over the long term. But, as people approach retirement, they should have some investments in their portfolio that are defensive as well. “Defensive” means certain holdings that are not affected as much when the stock market is down, and may even grow during those times.
So consider gold and silver as a small part of your portfolio. This investment can help protect you during the “usually temporary” down times in the market. And, as you approach retirement you need to have a bigger percentage of your portfolio in defensive stocks or precious metals. You can own gold and silver by investing in securities (the ones I recommend are exchange traded funds with the stock tickers of GLD or SIVR).
But some folks find it fun to have their own physical gold and silver in their possession. Coins are a fun way to do this as an investment but also as collectible items. And…Gold and Silver are great gift ideas, too, especially for younger people. They will remember you for life as they watch their gold coins and silver bars, increase the value of their portfolio of investments while protecting them from the market downside. Here are some specific suggestions. So, if you don’t have precious metals as small portion of your portfolio, start shopping now! Following the descriptions are pictures of all the products described, plus a few more!
First, consider giving or investing in a set of real, pure silver bars! My recommendation is the 2019 One-Ounce Dragon Series set of Silver Bars from the Perth Australia Mint. This set of five silver bars is brilliant, uncirculated, and .9999 pure! This is a wonderful collectible and great investment as well.
The One-Ounce American Buffalo $50 Dollar Gold Piece is brilliant, uncirculated, and .9999 pure gold. This is, in my opinion the king of coins as both an investment and collectible. If you have never actually owned precious metal, it doesn’t get any better than this!
2019 W American Silver Dollar $1 Uncirculated Coin MS70 PCGS First Strike – Struck at the West Point Mint, this is an easy and fun way to start collecting physical silver. And, the reasonable price makes this a thoughtful and precious gift as well!
2020 United Kingdom British Silver Britannia Coin (One Ounce Uncirculated) – This is the 24th year of release for this Silver Britannia coin! It is beautiful with the front side featuring Queen Elizabeth and the reverse side having a modern interpretation of the historic Britannia figure. This is fully monetized British currency and is very collectible, and also a great gift idea!
2018 One-Ounce Gold Bar – The “Australia Perth Mint Dragon” Series $100 Dollar Coin – Brilliant, uncirculated, and .9999 pure, you can own a gold bar or give an unforgettable gift. Again, this is investment quality and the greatest gift you could ever give other than your love…give gold!
