In PRAISE of GAS GRILLS
I finally surrendered and bought a gas grill. And, believe it or not, I’m glad I did! As a charcoal fire fanatic my whole life there was just something about kindling the fire, hanging out with loved ones while the coals ashed over, and tasting the awesome flavor of steaks, burgers, chicken, and vegetable skewers all smoky and rich. And then we moved into a house, and part of the office was a gas grill that came with the purchase.
Folks, it’s really easy and convenient. And imagine my surprise when the food was good, just as good…and maybe even better that what I had achieved with charcoal. Why? The temperature is more precise, the heat is easier to turn up and down. And, the fire is easier to light. But what about the flavor? Well, a lot of that flavor comes from the fats and juices falling on the coals and smoking up, and the gas grill grates and screens replicate that desire effect. And the great hickory or mesquite flavor can be achieve by just wrapping a few wet chips in an aluminum pocket, poking a whole in the packet, and throwing it on the grill to produce smoke.
And a few weeks ago I needed a new grill and, for the first time, I took the plunge and bought a new grill…a gas one! My choice was the Char-Broil Signature TRU-Infrared 2-Burner Cart Style Gas Grill, and I love it! It’s a smaller model because its just my wife and me and is very cost-effective. My model can handle either a propane tank or a natural gas hook-up. It has a modern, sleek stainless steel and black metal profile, an automatic lighter, fold-down counters on either side of the grill, and is very easy to clean, maintain and operate. I’ll never go back to charcoal again!
Everybody’s different so below I’m including some other recommendations of grills with effective and interesting features: The Char-Broil 463377319 Performance 4-Burner Cart Style Liquid Propane Stainless Steel Gas Grill only works with a propane tank, is VERY cost effective, and has four burners to give you more areas on the for different temperatures and foods.
I was always a fan of the quality and durability of Weber charcoal grills, and the Weber 44010001 Spirit II E-210 2-Burner Liquid Propane Grill, adds the Weber name and reputation to gas grills as well. This model uses a propane tank. Need a natural gas hook-up? Get the Weber 66015001 Genesis II E-315 3-Burner Natural Gas Grill. It’s black, and beautiful and is a great replacement for charcoal.
