THE OFFER of FREEDOM
In Galilee around 2000 years ago, Jesus was invited to speak one sabbath day in the synagogue. He took a scroll and read the scriptural words of the prophet Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives.” (Luke 4:18-19). Closing the scroll Jesus proclaimed, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21).
Jesus proclaimed in the presence of all that day that He was the fulfillment of a Biblical prophecy about a Messiah who would come to preach the good news of forgiveness for sinners, freedom for captives, and eternal life for all who receive God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. And, the offer still stands to day 2000 years later for all who follow the Lord.
