Preparation is the key to winning in sports, in business, in military battle, and in life. And spiritually, preparation of our minds is commanded in scripture as a way we can be ready for Christ’s return. We do this, according to scripture, by being “sober-minded.”
This word in the Bible means being alert, unadulterated by things that would cause our minds and attitudes to be dulled. This not only includes drugs and alcohol, but bad, sinful, and bitter attitudes as well. And the best ways to think clearly is to have your minds renewed by receiving Jesus and reading scripture. By this your minds will be cleansed and you will become something beautiful and good for the Lord.
The Bible says it this way in 1 Peter 1:13, “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
