THEOPHILUS – A GOD LOVER
When Jesus burst on the scene 2000 years ago, the good news of salvation in Him spread like wildfire around the world. And one of the early believers in Christ, a physician named Luke endeavored to use his scholarly approach to write down an orderly account of the things Jesus said and did, as well as the truth about how Jesus was the fulfillment of all the promise of God to bring a Messiah to save the world.
He writes his “Gospel” (which means Good News) to a person named “Theophilus” (which means God-lover). Whether this was an actual person or not, one thing is clear. All those who love God will be strengthened in the certainty of their faith by reading the Bible, and particularly the Gospel accounts of Jesus Christ, our savior and Lord!
(Luke 1:1-4) 1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
