ORDINARY PEOPLE
God does not need your ability. He only wants your “availability.” If you just give him the talents that you have, He will take you and use you in His service. This is illustrated in the Bible when Jesus called His twelve disciples. They were ordinary people, not the intelligentsia or the powerful influencers of His day. They were a ragtag group including fishermen, a tax collector, and even a violent political zealot. But, Jesus took them, transformed them, and used them to accomplish eternal things.
But, notice that even in this first “church” of called out followers of Jesus there was a counterfeit; a false believer who merely acted the part. So, as you read all about it in our scripture passage below, take what little you have and give it all sincerely to the Lord. He will take you and use you to do amazing things!
(Mark 3:13-19) 13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
