When God is involved the most insignificant beginnings can be given eternal and consequential results. This is illustrated in the parable of Jesus, which is our scripture reading for today. He tells the story of a mustard seed, one of the smallest of all herbs that grows up into a tree so large that birds perched in its branches. This is definitely very unusual behavior for an herb! So, as you read, do not despise the day of small things. (Zechariah 4:10). When God is at work, He can turn even the weakest situations into the greatest of victories.
(Luke 13:18-19) 18 Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
