JESUS the STORYTELLER
The Oxford Dictionary defines a parable as, “A simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson.” Jesus as the master story teller used parables with colorful characters and metaphors to tell leave his listeners with unforgettable principles about morals, character, and love of God and others. Why did Jesus decide to use this style of teaching? In the Bible in our scripture reading for today we do not get the full answer, but receive a hint that it was to build interest in the lives of His hearers, getting them ready for the explanation to come.
(Mark 4:33-34) 33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
