Several of Jesus’ parables deal with the Kingdom of God. This term in the Bible in the New Testament literally means, “the rule of God” that Jesus came to establish both here on earth and in heaven. And, in our scripture reading for today, the Lord compares the value of this kingdom to a treasure that is so valuable that it is worth selling everything else in our life to obtain.
(Matthew 13:44-45) 44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
