“He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:17-18). Ephesians is a letter from the Apostle Paul to the church in the city of Ephesus. There are only two main themes in this book of the Bible. The first theme is “how to be saved,” and the second theme is, “how the saved ought to live.”
This church had members from two groups…Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians, who struggled at times to get along with each other. In our scripture verses for today Paul explains that Jesus came to preach peace and unity to both groups. This peace extends from God to mankind, but also breaks down walls of separation and conflict between different types of people.
God does not show favoritism. The Spirit provides every one of us access to the Father through the Good News of Jesus. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you have been, what language you speak, or what race you are. All are invited to participate in God’s redemptive plan by receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. Now we can live in peace and confidence. Our salvation is secure!
